My faculty position is known as professional track faculty meaning that I am non-tenure but maintain an active research agenda. After spending the majority of my career in student affairs, I have enjoyed pursuing my interest in social capital theory. Yes, I was nervous when I started this journey. But I am reminded of this quote by Audre Lorde: "When I dare to be powerful – to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid."
